For the past few days, a great number of people have been celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of The Beatles coming to America. While I am not a fan of their music by any means, it is hard to deny their influence. They were the vanguards of what came to be known as the British Invasion. With the influx of bands crossing the Pond, and the American youth yearning for something new, the many groups were able to experiment. Some were successful and some were not, but in some way they affected the rock n roll of the time, and therefore the genres that came from it.
Somehow I doubt anyone could imagine what today's music and larger culture would be like, if they had not come over. Their impact was that great.
